Autopsy
The tiny blood vessels which connects arteries and veins.
They are in intimate contact with all tissues and are essential in the effective delivery of embalming solutions.
Capillaries
A dead body; usually a human preserved for anatomical study
Cadaver
Any space in a human body; major cavities are filled with organs and some fluid
Cavity
This refers to beautifying; tending to preserve, restore,or confer beauty.
Cosmetic
This refers to the state of terminated life.
It involves both to the event of life’s termination and to the state of lack of life.
Death
A document issued by the attending physician or in his absence, by the city or municipal health officer or other duly authorized government official, using the prescribed form certifying the death of a person
Death certificate
The killing of most life forms on instruments or equipment, all but the most resistant bacterial and fungal spores.
Usually done by chemical and heat
Disinfection
An instrument used to keep veins open to facilitate drainage during arterial injection
Drainage aid
A duly licensed peron who applies, injects or introduces any chemical substance or drug or herbs internally or externally to a dead human body for the purpose of embalming, disinfecting and preserving it
Embalmer
Disinfection, preservation and restoration of a dead body before it’s final disposal
Embalming
A duly licensed person who practices undertaking
Undertaker
A clear, colorless, aqueous solution of formaldehyde gas (37% by weight or 40% by volume).
Dilute solutions are used to disinfect and preserve dead bodies
Formalin (commercial or concentrated)
A case where the cause of death or the circumstances surrounding the death may have involved a criminal act
Medico legal case
Objects used to form a protective barrier between the dead body and the embalmer’s portal of entry for infectious disease agents
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
The act or process of preserving or keeping from injury, destruction or decay
Preservation
A substance or preparation added to a product to destroy microorganisms or inhibit their growth
Preservative
The partial or complete reconstruction of a human body, head and or hands that suffered visible trauma prior to death
Restoration
The hygienic means of preventing human contact from the hazards of wastes to promote health.
Hazards can be physical, microbiological, biological or chemical agents of disease.
Sanitation
The killing of all life forms on instruments or equipment using steam under pressure (autoclaving) or certain chemicals
Sterilization
A pointed hollow tube used to aspirate from or inject into bodies being embalmed
Trocar
The process of handling and caring for dead bodies from the point of death to the burial but does not include embalming
Undertaking
A vessel in which blood flows towards the heart
