What kind of emotion is anxiety?
It’s not bad emotion, it can motivate to take action. It’s adaptive, healthy emotion. The problem is when its level is too high.
What are 3 different styles of catastrophizing?
- downward spiral
- scatter shot
- circling
What is downward spiral in catastrophizing?
It’s when anxiety increasing, kind of story.
What is scatter shot in catastrophizing?
It’s generating all sort of different really bad things.
What is circling in catastrophizing?
It’s ruminating about just one primary theme. Can go into procrastination.
What are triggers of catatastrophizing?
- ambiguity
- something that you value highly
- you already fear the situation
- being run down or depleted
How to manage anxiety?
- changing our thinking directly
- deliberate breathing
- mindfulness approach
What does changing thinking directly mean?
It’s a cognitive system of thinking about thinking.
- worst case
- best case
- probable
- action plan
What does positive emotions?
They broaden our attention, help us to be more creative and more flexible.
What are the benefits of gratitude?
- better physical and mental health, increased happiness, sleep better, have better relationships, stronger faith and spirituality, less materialism
