What is dispositional optimism?
It’s the basic belief that good things are going to happen- dr.Carver and Scheier.
What is explanatory style?
It’s the way we explain the causes of good and bad things that happen to us. - dr Martin Seligman.
What are 3 dimensions of explanatory style in optimism?
- internal vs external
- stable vs unstable
- global vs specific
What tendency have optimists in explanatory style?
When bad things happen optimists explain them as external, unstable and specific.
What are benefits of optimism?
- cope with stress more effectively
- have greater social support
- have greater quality of life

- less likely to have coronary artery disease
