Module 3 Flashcards
are organs of speech which produce sounds that are perceived as speech by pushing the air from the lungs up and, while modifying it by various means, out of the mouth.
Human Speech Organs
produce consonants
and vowels and voiced and voiceless sounds.
Organs of speech
The main three parts of the speech producing apparatus in humans are the
lungs, the voice box and the vocal tract
Stages of the speaking process
breathing, phonation, resonation, articulation
2 stages of the breathing stage
inhalation and exhalation
- Inhale deeply and/or more rapidly
- Maintain steady pressure of air as you talk
- Maintain an adequate breath reserve
The Breathing Stage
Takes place when voice is produced in speaking as the expiratory air stream from the lungs goes up through the trachea to the larynx
The Phonation Stage
The process of voice amplification and
modification
The Resonation Stage
Resonators:
upper part of larynx, pharynx, nasal
cavity, and oral cavity
Occurs when the tone produced at the larynx is
changed into specific sound
The Articulation Stage
Articulators:
lower jaw, lower lip, tongue, uvula
Points of Articulation:
upper lip, upper teeth,
upper alveolar ridge, hard palate, soft palate
