Module 2 what to say in phases of healing Flashcards
Acute phase - occuring first 24-48 hours and may last up to 4-6 days, overview to a pt
Hi. The process will require you to take it easy for the next 4-6 days. The first 24-48 hours are crucial in protecting that area as there are important processes/fibers trying to close up that injury. Let the inflammation phase do its thing and RICE. We also do not want to not move it either. I can be sure to keep those lil fibrils from developing in a random fashion and will help organize it with light passive movements and may do light grade 1 mobilizations and passive ROM. Now some can tolerate this in this phase and some can not.
Acute phase - starting at 24-48 hours after injury and going to about 4-6 days after - Manual interventions?
Ok so we will be doing light PROM if tolerable to maintain mobility in joints, ligaments, tendons and muscles as well as good for fluid dynamics and nutrition for joints. We will not be stretching as that is contraindicated for this stage. If we do gain ROM, that is not from stretching but due to decrease pain, swelling and muscle guarding. I may perform grade 1 distraction and glide techniques do assist with fluid dynamics to help maintain cartilage health and they can also help inhibit the perception of pain. Grade 1 joint mobs are also a possibility. I may perform cross friction massage on tendons/ligaments or perform massage to soft tissue to help with fluid dynamics and decrease adhesions adhesioning where they shouldn’t ;)
