Breast Changes in Pregnancy

- Abdomen gets hard
Concerns with Cardiovascular System
- Supine hypotension
- Dependent Edema
- Postural Hypotension
: Left Side lying reduces aortic compression
GI Changes
- N/V, constipation, hemmorrhoids, gallstones, cholecystitis
Urinary Tract Changes
- Frequency increased from pressure of uterus in first trimester and 3rd

Neurologic Changes
- ***Headaches ( bc of increased blood volume ) muscle cramps, mental fog
Endocrine Changes
- Decreased FSH and LH –> Amenorrhea ( spotting )
Warning Signs
( 1st Trimester )
-Severe vomiting
-Chills
-Diarrhea
- Vaginal Bleeding ( Ectopic preg, miscarriage )
Warning Signs
( 2nd, 3rd )
- Preterm labor, vaginal bleeding, discharge from vagina, unusual fetal movement
( MMR ) Rubella and Varicella
- Greatest risk to fetus in the 1st trimester
- Vaccinate prior to conception or right away postpartum
Treat all GBS cultures with Penicillin G
-Culture all preg women at 35-37 weeks
- Closely monitor baby for 48 hrs after
