Knowledge and power are profoundly interrelated.

Define Harassment
Refers to any unwanted behavior that causes emotional or physical distress to another person by making them feel offended, humiliated, or intimidated.
What Are the Forms of Harassment?
Verbal: insults, threats or derogatory comments.
Physical: unwanted physical contact, hitting, or pushing.
Sexual: unwanted sexual requests or inappropriate sexual comments.
Visual: Displaying offensive images or gestures.
Cyberbullying: sending threatening messages, or spreading harmful rumors.
What Are Sexual or Gendered Intrusions?
Ex; boss asks you to go out for a drink; creates power imbalance; hard to refuse.
The way we perceive intrusions depends on the person (tend to think that men in low social classes are more dangerous/are criminals).
What Are the Statistics Regarding Sexual Harassment According to the Ben Livingston (2015) Study?
620 Canadian women under the age of 40.
70% have experienced harassment before the age of 15 and 17.
79% have been ‘followed by a man or a group of men in a way that made them feel unsafe during the past year’.
Define Safety Work
Extra precautions that people take (either consciously or subconsciously) in order to avoid unwanted interactions.
What Is Restorative Justice and Remedial Training?
Event where victims and perpetrator gather to try to find a solution together.
Define Resistance
Organization to fight against an issue.
Ex: Slut Walk Movement
What Are the Risk Factors for Victimization?
Individuals: identity categories, previous victimization
Social: power imbalance, workplace culture, isolation, high-stress environment
What Are the Protective Factors For Victimization?
Strong policies and procedures, supportive leadership, training and education, social support.
