A
  • A willingness to develop a relationship with the other person
  • Both nurse and person must be willing to share information, ideas, and perspectives with one another and to hear what the other has to say
  • Nurses show openness through the questions they ask, how the questions are asked, how they listen to the responses to these and then how they respond
  • Openness to change or learn
  • Without openness a mutually agreed upon plan cannot be achieved
  • The nurse needs to be able to trust the person’s knowledge and abilities and willingness to work together
