Module #2 Flashcards
PICOT Method
a useful model to help structure an answerable question. used to formulate clinical or research questions
P - opulation
who is the group that will participate in your research?
I - ntervention
refers to the treatment/exposure that participants receive
C - ontrol / Comparison
refers to the alternative group to which the intervention group is compared
O - utcome
the event or occurrence or variable that you want to measure/observe
T - ime
amount of time that you want to follow the development of the outcome
Hypothesis
a statement of the expected outcome
Null Hypothesis
a sample is representative of (equal to) a population. intervention & control groups will have the same outcome
Alternative (Research) Hypothesis
contradicts the null hypothesis. sample does not represent (differs from) a population. the outcome of the intervention & control groups will differ
Non-Directional Research Hypothesis
predict a change or difference in the outcome measure, but does not specify which way that change is/will go
Directional Research Hypothesis
predict the direction of the change or difference in the outcome measure between the groups
