Distinguishing features of fungi?
unicellular (yeast) or multicellular (mold), heterotrophic (decomposition), non motile, cell wall made of chitin, and some cause disease.
Features of molds.
multicellular, has spores, aerobic, reproduce both asexually and sexually via spores.
Asexual spores:
spores that reproduce by mitosis or cell division.
Sexual spores:
two pores of opposite charge attach to one another and create new spore.
what are hyphae?
long filaments of mold. (arm like)
What is the difference between human/animal cells and fungal cells?
They only difference is humans/animals have cholesterol while fungal cells have ergosterol.
How do antifungal medications work?
they attach ergosterol or the cell wall.
What is mycosis?
any type of fungal infection.
