Module 13 Flashcards
1
Q
Non cleft causes of VPI
A
- Palatopharyngeal disproportion
- Mechanical obstruction
- VP Incompetency
- VP Mislearning
2
Q
What is Palatopharyngeal disproportion and what are the causes?
A
The distance from the soft palate to the velum are abnormally far away from each other.
Potential causes:
- short hard palate (brings soft palate forward)
- short soft palate
- excessive pharyngeal depth
- cervical spine anomalies (cervical abnormalities)
- flattened cranial base (skull abnormalities)
- removal of an adenoid pad
3
Q
Causes of Mechanical obstruction
A
- excessively large palatine tonsils
- tonsilar interference
- adenoid interference
- structurally anomalous facial pillars (posterior pillar webbing)
- inadequate movement of velum
4
Q
what is VP Incompetency?
A
neurological damage—mobility problems
- know that this is seen in the context of a dysarthria
