Module 13 Flashcards
the process of recreating or re-enacting how a crime occurred basing on a rational theory.
Crime Scene reconstruction
Why is crime scene reconstruction necessary?
It is necessary so that we can establish the modus operandi of the criminal
Crime scene reconstruction usually involves….
Scientific methods, physical evidence, deductive reasoning and their interrelationships to gain explicit knowledge of the series of events that surround the commission of a crime.
It is the application of psychological theory to the analysis and reconstruction of the forensic evidence that relates to an offender’s crime scenes, victims and behaviors.
Criminal profiling
This approach entails immediate assumption of a theory then later supports it by collecting corroborative information.
Deductive reasoning
This technique requires the collection of information first. Analysis and evaluation information follows to develop a theory.
Inductive reasoning
It is based on the description of the witnesses and the indication of the pieces of physical evidence recovered or observed.
Recreating the crime scene itself
Physical scene reconstruction
From physical reconstruction, some conclusions can be made concerning the consistency of the accounts of various witnesses. Assumptions should be supported by physical evidence
Imagine what happened before the crime was committed and how did the crime happen
Mental scene reconstruction
