Module 11 Standardized Measurement Flashcards
Measurement
act of measuring
identifying the dimensions, quantity, capacity or degree
Nominal measurement scale
Categorizes, labels, names, identifies things that cannot be quantified
Ordinal measurement scale
Provides rank order of objects or individuals from first to last, or best to worst
Interval measurement scale
Includes rank ordering and equal intervals (distances) between adjacent numbers
Ration measurement scale
Includes rank ordering, equal intervals, and absolute zero point.
Permits forming ration statement.
Measurement reliability
Consistency or reliability of a set of scores
Reliability coefficient
Calculating a correlation of coefficient as a measure of reliability
Test-retest reliability
Consistency of test scores over time.
Correlate scores at one time with scores at a later time.
Equivalent forms reliability
Consistency of test scores obtained on tow equivalent forms measuring the same thing.
Internal consistency
Items measure a single construct (idea)
Interscorer reliability
Consistency of two or more scorers or raters
Measurement validity
Appropriateness of interpretations, inferences, and actions based on test scores.
Degree the test measures what it is supposed to.
Validity evidence
empirical evidence and theoretical rationales that support the interpretations and actions taken on the basis of the scores
