when to use autocratic
use this method when the decision is small but the urgency of the decision goes up
when to use participatory
higher urgency and big impact! buy in is key
when to use consensus base
large decisions but no urgency (plenty of time)
when to use democratic
midsize decisions, not a lot of urgency but need to make a decision soonish
autocratic
decisions are made at the top.
ex.focus on the speed of the decision and the risk you are going to take
participatory
make a decision with input from the people who are going to be impacted.
- the final decision will be made by an individual or a smaller group.
democratic
you have to vote as a group to make this decision. you have to make the decision to move on and get to other bigger things
RACI matrix
- Responsible-delivers the project
- Accountable- approves the project
- Consulted-provide opinions and information
- Informed- need to be kept up to date
synchronous communication
communications that takes place in real time, ex. conversation with a friend.
asynchronous communication
communication that is not immediate and occurs over longer periods of time. ex. emails, letters, etc.
critical listening
- recognizing difference between facts and opinions
- uncovering assumptions
- be open to new ideas
- rely on reason and common sense
- relate new ideas to old ones
