general application of safety signage?
.. Duty on employers to avoid or control risk
•Risk assessment
•Safety signs required to ensure any remaining significant risk is apparent to employees
•No risk – no sign
•No duty on employers for non-employees
•Do not apply to self employed
•However both have duties under the HSW Act 1974.

Fire safety signs are defined in the Regulations as:
•Signs that give the location of routes and exits for use in case of fire
•Signs that give the location of and information on firefighting equipment
•Signals that give warning (in case of fire):
−Acoustic, or
−Illuminated, or
−both.
what are the requirements for singe under the RRO( FSO) ?
•Article 13(b) Fire Fighting Equipment … to be indicated by signs
•Article 14(g) Emergency Routes and Exits… to be indicated by signs
•Must comply with Safety Signs and Signals Regulations
•Enforcement is by the enforcing authority of the relevant enactment
•Small premises – one exit – no need for a sign
•Large complex building – any routes not obvious –require signage.
