many any decisions regarding housing three questions needs to be considered:

- What one intends to do with the horse?
- What can be affordable?

Whether one chooses to board a horse, or want to house a horse on a property,
many of the same considerations exist. One may consider most of the following
factors in any case:

- The local weather conditions in the area
- Legal requirements including zoning limitations and building code issues
- The terrain and topography of the site
- Type of enclosed structures such as barns, stalls, etc.
- Location of pastures and paddocks
- Over-all operation whether a single horse or many horses
- Driveways and access for trailers and other equipment
- Fencing
- Location of safe gated entries and exits
- Storage of hay and bedding
- Space for utility and tack areas
- The horse’s temperament
- The horse’s kind of work, show schedules, and daily routine
- How much one can afford to spend
