Module 1 - Sensitivity and Specificity Flashcards
- Sensitivity
ability of the test to identify correctly who HAVE THE DISEASE
- proportion of people who have diagnosis AND test positive
A / (A+C)
- Specificity
ability of the test to identify correctly those who DO NOT HAVE THE DISEASE
- proportion of people have the diagnosis AND test negative for the disease
Both specificity and sensitivity are both part of evaluating VALIDITY
D / (D+B)
- Levels of Disease Prevention
Primary: pre disease, health promotion and prevention
(immunizations, safety education, no smoking)
Secondary; latent disease, detect disease early to minimize disease impact
(screening tests)
Tertiary: symptomatic disease, minimize negative outcomes
(diagnostic tests and treatment intervention)
- Immunization Schedule
look at cdc reading
