Local Area Network (LAN)

Two or more LANs connected with private or public communication lined within the same area
Wide Area Network (WAN)
large amount of networks/PC’s communicating with each other through a worldwide scale
Network Topology
Physical arrangement of devices in a network
Bus Topology
Network that connects all nodes with just a single cable
Star Topology
Cables running from each node to connect to a single point
Ring Topology
Single cable that runs constantly through each node
Multistation Access Unit (MAU)
Allows quick connect/disconnect of token rings while keeping the rules of the Ring Topology
Mesh Topology
Each node connects to every other node
Wireless Topology
Uses radio rather than cabling for the nodes to communicate
Hybrid Topology
Mixture of two or more topologies
