Module 1-Lesson 1.2.2 Flashcards
Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN)
Provides means for a fully digital transmission (developed in the 1980’s)
Basic Rate ISDN (BRI-ISDN)
Consists of three conductors that can carry only one frequency
Two B channels, bearer (BRI-ISDN)
carries data, voice and video. Carries maximum of 64kbps
One D channel, delta (BRI-ISDN)
Carries control signals at a maximum bandwidth of of 16kbps
Primary Rate ISDN (PRI-ISDN)
consists of 23b channels and 1d channel, and a total data rate of 1.544mbps
Broadband rate ISDN (B-ISDN)
designed to carry multiple frequencies and had a total data rate of 1.5mbps
Digital Subscriber Line (DSL)
High speed internet access technology (designed to replace ISDN bc it is faster)
Satellite
Dish receives dl signal; telephone lines transport uploaded signal
Dial-Up Networking
Allows PCs and other network devices to connect to remote networks over standard telephone lines
Remote Access Server
Accessed remotely by users not on a LAN
Virtual Private Network (VPN)
makes it possible to create a private connection over a public network with no additional cost
Channel Service Unit/Data Service Unit (CSU/DSU)
converts LAN signals into signals for the T1 line
Edge Router
router at the entrance and exit of a WAN
head-end
Local area distribution point
International Telecommunication Union (ITU)
responsible for standardizing communication on and international level
