Module 1: Lesson 5 Flashcards
What is ubiquitin?
A small protein that marks protein for destruction by the proteasome
Does ubiquitin attach covalently or non-covalently?
Covalently
How is beta-catenin kept out of the nucleus?
Phosphorylation and ubiquitination
What does cell fractation enable?
Isolation of different cellular compartments
What are the lipid classes?
Fatty acids, phospholipids, steroids, glycolipids, triacylglycerides, and terpenes
What is the role for phospholipid translocators and what are other names for them?
To flip phospholipids for symmetrical growth of the bilayer. Other names for them are scramblases and flippases.
Where are sugars added to make a glycoprotein?
In the lumen of the ER and Golgi
Where are sugars attached to bilayer glycoproteins?
Extracellular surface of the plasma membrane
