Q

what is negative feedback?

A

1) set point (ex. body temp should be 37 deg)
2) sensors detect if it is not at set point (ex. lower temp)
3) control center activates EFFECTORS to influence a CONTROLLED VARIABLE to reach set point (ex shivering to generate heat)
4) sensors detect once set point is reached and control center stops effector from changing the variable (stop shivering)
SUMMARY: the controlled v. turns off its own production by the effector thru the sensors to control center

Q

what is positive feedback?

A
  • controlled v. STIMULATES own production
  • variable detected by sensor, tells control center to produce more by effector.
  • allows LOTS of variable to be produced at once
