Module 1: Clinical Calculations (Chapter 1) Flashcards
1
Q
Roman Numerals
A
I = 1
V = 5
X = 10
L = 50
C = 100
D = 500
M = 1000
Ex.
I= 1
II=2
III = 3
IV=4 (5-1)
V=5
VI=6
VII=7
VIII=8 (5+1+1+1)
IX=9 (10-1)
X=10
XIV=14
XIX=19
XX=20
If a greater value follows symbols of lesser value, the lesser value is subtracted from the greater value IV = 5-1 = 4
If the lesser value follows the greater value, they are added XX = 10 + 10 = 20 VI = 5 + 1 = 6
2
Q
Three steps to multiply fractions
A
- Multiply numerators.
- Multiply the denominators.
- Reduce the product the lowest possible fraction.
Ex. 2/4 X 1/8 = 2/32 = 1/16
3
Q
Four steps for dividing fractions
A
- Turn the second fraction (divisor) in the problem upside down (invert).
- Multiply two numerators.
- Multiply two denominators.
- Reduce answer to lowest term (fraction or whole number)
Ex. 2/4 four and 2/4 / 1/8 = 2/4 * 8/1 = 16/4 = 4
