Module 1 - Attorney Responsibilities and Obligations/ Journaling Flashcards
Bloom’s taxonomy
presents thinking skills in terms of a pyramid with fundamental skills at the bottom (knowledge) and the most complex skills at the two (evaluation)
knowledge –> comprehension –> application –> synthesis –> evaluation
Knowledge is created through a cycle of
experience, observation, reflection, abstraction, and action
knowledge is demonstrated by
recall or recognition of specific information
Comprehension
involves the ability to make limited use of knowledge; translate the knowledge and transform it,
Application
ability to solve new problems by using the products of knowledge and comprehension (like solving hypotheticals)
Analysis
break down information into its component parts so the relationship between those parts is clear
Synthesis
bringing together a variety of ideas, viewpoints, problems, or concepts and putting them into on single framework
Evaluation
implies mastery of knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, and synthesis; at this level of thinking, student is capable of evaluating the information. presented and making sound judgements about its use, value, and implications
Law school is designed to
help students learn how to learn and assist them in becoming self-directed learners
Becoming a self-directed learner
involves learning to take more responsibilities for your own learning
A journal is
a space to record what you think you know and the gaps in your understanding (what you don’t)
Journal writing provides
- cognitive skills (complex thinking; analysis)
- affective skills (stress/anxiety management; therapeutic use)
- functional skills
Functional skills given by Journals
improve writing and written communication; enhance observation and allow for better retainment of information; reflection; and supplement in-person communication
Three ways journals improve written communication
1 - focus on the process of writing
2 - emphasizes the expressive and personal nature of writing
3 - provides an opportunity to engage in meaningful writing
