Module 1 Flashcards
Lync Standard vs Enterprise Edition
Lync Standard Edition
Uses SQL Express (SE) which is included with Windows Server
Does not have “automatic” failover
• Lync Enterprise Edition
You must have a full version of SQL
Has “automatic” failover
Enterprise Voice Features
1
CMS provides centralized, schematized storage for:
Topology information
Configuration data for all servers and services
User policy information
Lync Server 2010 server roles include:
Director Edge Archiving/Monitoring Survivable Branch Appliance (SBA) Survivable Branch Server Mediation Server
it acts as a next-hop server – it offers an additional layer of security, and in a deployment with multiple internal pools it offloads the distribution of the users to their home pools
Director
It is placed in the DMZ zone
• Enables communication with external participants, remote
users, federated users (using Public Internet Connectivity)
and anonymous users
• Can be deployed as a single server or as a pool
• It runs 3 services, Access Edge, Web Confo, AV Edge
• It also has a reverse proxy which publishes meeting content,
address book info etc
Edge
Meaning that if the WAN goes down, it “survives”
• A server with an embedded PSTN gateway running
W2K8 R2 and Lync server 2010
• Designed for branch sites that host 25-1000 users and
where a full deployment of Lync is not reasonable financially,
or where local admin support is not available
• The ___ can provide basic phone services to users at the branch
site when the WAN link to the Lync server central site is down
Survivable Branch Appliance (SBA)
It is a Windows server that has Lync Server 2010 Registrar
and Mediation server software installed
• It is designed for branch sites that host between 1,000
and 5,000 users who lack a resilient WAN connection and
have trained Lync Server 2010 administrators available
• It must be configured to connect to either an IP/PSTN
gateway or a SIP trunk to a telephone service provider
Survivable Branch Server
(optional – but if you want Ent Voice you must use it)
• it is the central server necessary for Enterprise Voice and dial-in
conferencing – it translates signaling between Lync and
IP-PBX or IP-PSTN GW or a SIP trunk
Mediation Server
DNS load balancing for SIP traffic is automatically
deployed on:
- Front End pool
- Edge server pool
- Director pool
- Mediation server
