Problems encountered in Meat Industry
Several intervening factors that affect the meat industry:

f. Animal welfare issues
g. Indiscriminate use of antibiotics
h. Health problems for animal and consumers
i. Pollution
j. Land use and conversion issues leading cause of deforestation
k. Low productivity and performance of animals

m. Unfavorable government regulations

Meat processing
This involves the following process:
- slaughtering of animals
- cutting of meat
- inspection to ensure it is safe for public consumption
- packaging and processing into other meat products such as longanisa or tocino
- delivering to stores and selling to customers.
Advantages of meat processing:
- Kills harmful microorganisms which makes them safer to eat
- For longer shelf life
- Food packaging rendered the meat free of microbial growth and contamination
- Processed meats are easy to handle, easy to get, always available in all season and at all stores
- Processed food such as pre-cut meat are quality convenience foods for busy people and for those who do not have easy access to market.
- Food additives are added to ensure food safety, add nutritional value or improve food quality.
- Palatability and sensory improvements
Disadvantages of meat processing:
- Food processing remove some nutrients and vitamins.
- Frequent intake of processed meat may contain substances that may cause health problems.
- Processed meat may contain substances that may cause allergic reactions.
- May contain sugar, salts, fats and phosphates in processed meat may cause health problems.
