MODULE 1 Flashcards
6 NECESSARY PROPERTIES OF EARTH THAT SUPPORT LIFE
- LIQUID WATER
- GOLDILOCKS ZONE
- ATMOSPHERE
- MAGNETIC FIELD
- GRAVITY
- HEAT SOURCE
5 REASONS WHY EARTH CAN SUSTAIN LIFE
- Located in the Goldilocks Zone (habitable zone), where we’re not too far or near the sun.
- Composed of different gases, including oxygen, that supports life
- Has a magnetic field that protects us from solar flares
- Has liquid water due to the ideal heat source from the sun
- Has an ideal amount of gravity that freely lets us walk
4 SUBSYSTEMS OF THE EARTH
- GEOSPHERE
- ATMOSPHERE
- HYDROSPHERE
- BIOSPHERE
Contains all air in the system, as well as a mixture of different gases that surrounds the planet.
ATMOSPHERE
MEANING OF ATMOS
GAS
Contains all the cold, hard, solid land of the planet’s crust, the semi-solid land underneath it, and the liquid near the center of the planet.
GEOSPHERE
MEANING OF GEO
GROUND
3 LAYERS OF GEOSPHERE/EARTH
- CRUST
- MANTLE
- CORE (INNER/OUTER)
Contains all the solid, liquid, gaseous water of the planet. (ALL BODIES OF WATER TOO)
HYDROSPHERE
The frozen part of the hydrosphere such as glacier, ice caps, and ice bergs.
CRYOSPHERE
contains all planet’s living things, ex: microorganisms, plants, and animals.
BIOSPHERE
Cycle where the water will evaporate to become water vapor (which becomes part of the atmosphere), and when precipitation occurs, the soil will absorb the water where trees are planted (under geosphere/biosphere). The cycle continues.
