Modual 7 Flashcards
What do the different letters mean in the standard form formula?
A = number 1 and 10 n = number 0's
When you put a number into standard form, what do you have to make sure that have done to the first number? e.g. 528, 000, 0
That it is between 1 and 10
e.g. 5.28 x 10 {power of 6}
How do you get a reciprocal number? e.g. 12
/ by 1
e.g. 1/12
What is the equation for fractional indices?
a 1/n = square root to the power of 3 with a inside
What are the first 3 fractional indices?
a 1/2
a 1/3
a 1/4
What is 9 1
–
2
{square root} 9 = 3
What is 8 1/3?
{square root to the power of 3} 8 = 2
What is the formula for negative indices?
x{power -n} = 1/x{power -n}
When you are doing fractional indices, if the top fraction next to x is 2, what do you do?
x 2/3 = ( {square root to the power of 3} x) {power of 2}
x 2/4 = ( {square root to the power of 4} x) {power of 2}
What is a rational number?
A number which doesnt repeat e.g. 77/13
A number which can be written as a fraction
What is a irrational number?
A number which doesn’t repeat e.g. any thing to the square root, pie
A number which can not be written as a fraction
Are surds rational or irrational, and why?
irrational because it is a number with a square root symbol
What is the surd rules for multiplying, dividing, addition?
{square root} a x {square root} b = {square root} ab
{square root} a a
—————– = {square root} —
{square root} b b
{square root} a + {square root} b = (a + {square root} b){squared}
What would the answer be if the question was {square root} 3 x {square root} 3 and why?
3
any number x by it’s will always be the number for the answer
How do you simplify surds? e.g. {square root} 24
HINT : find the biggest square factor
e.g. {SR} 4 x {SR} 6
2 x {SR} 6
2{SR}6
