Q

How do you figure out the scale factor of shape A onto shape B?

A
  • count all of the square in shape A (4 squares)
  • count all of the square in shape B (16 squares)
  • figure out how many x it would take from shape A to B (4 times)
  • Than you have your scale factor (scale factor 4)

Q

How do you find the centre of enlargement?

A
  • Draw a line from the bottom left hand corner of SHAPE A. Draw it up to SHAPE B’s bottom left hand corner and let it go all the way to the top of the grid
  • Do the same thing with the other two corners
  • Where all three lines meet, that’s your centre of enlargement

Q

How do you construct a triangle when given 3 sides?

A

1) draw the longest measurement at the bottom
2) stretch your compass to one of the two other lengths
3) put the point of the compass on either point of the line you draw in STEP 1
4) move the compass to make a semi-circle
5) repeat STEP 2,3 AND 4 for the last measurement
6) where the two semi-circles meet, that it the top point of the triangle

Q

How do you construct a triangle with the angle and two given sides?

A

1) draw the longest length
2) measure the angle and put a dot where it is
3) draw a line from the corner and go through the dot

Q

How do you construct a 90 degree angle?

A

1) open your compass to a reasonable length
2) put the point of the compass on the point of the line and draw two arch’s on the line, either side of the point
3) open the compass a little bit further. Put the compass on one of the two arch’s and draw a bigger arch above it
4) repeat STEP 3

16
Q

How do you draw the perpendicular line from a point of the lin e

A

1) make your compass a reasonable length
2) make two points on the line the same distance and either side of the point
3) make the compass a little bigger and make a arch below the line from your compass being on the arc h that you just drew
4) repeat STEP 3
5) once you’ve drawn the perpendicular line, do a 90 degrees symbol

17
Q

What does locus mean?

A

a line that shows all the points which fit a given rule

18
Q

Loci: fixed distance from a given point

A

1) open the compass to the measurement given

2) draw a circle around the point given

19
Q

How do you construct a 60 degree angle?

A

1) open your compass to a reasonable length
2) put the point of the of the compass on the point of the line and draw a arch on the line and about it
3) keeping the compass the same length, move it to the arch on the line
4) draw another arch to over lap the first arch

20
Q

What does bisect mean?

A

To cut in half

21
Q

How do you bisect a angle?

A

1) open the compass to a reasonable length
2) put the point of the compass on the point of the angle. Move the compass to make two arch’s on both of the lines
3) move the compass to the arch you just drew and do another arch above it
4) repeat STEP 3

22
Q

How do you bisect a line?

A

1) open the compass to a reasonable length
2) put the compass on one end of the line and draw a arch above and below the line
4) do the same for the other side of the line
5 draw a line through the two crosses

23
Q

Loci: equidistant from two given points

A

1) open you compass to over half way of the distance between the points
2) put the compass on one of the points and draw an arch above and under ‘the line’
3) repeat STEP 2 but on the other point
4) draw a line between the arch’s, where they meet

24
Q

Loci: equidistant from two given lines

A

1) open your compass to a reasonable length
2) put the point of the compass on the point where the two lines meet. Draw arch on each of the lines
3) move your compass onto the arch you just drew and make another arch
4) repeat STEP 3
5) draw a line from where the two lines meet to the second arch pair you drew

25
Q

Loci: a fixed distance from a given line

A

1) measure the compass out to the measurement that you got given in the question
2) draw a semi-circle around the end of the line
3) repeat STEP 2 but on the other side
4) draw a line on top side, touching both of the semi-circles
5) repeat STEP 4 but on the other side
