Wouldn’t accept men as members
Main methods: propaganda protests damage to property violence civil disobedience hunger strikes
People’s response to suffragettes
Suffragists peaceful approach created positive response but actions of suffragettes that got movement noticed and in newspapers
Violent actions overshadowed the message these women really wanted to put across
First World War effects on women’s movement
Both groups put their fight for vote on hold to get involved in war effort
Took men’s jobs and did them well gaining respect meaning got vote in 1916
What was the general strike
War caused major problems with economy so coal miners and transport workers told to work more for less pay so went on strike but eventually had to give up without achieving goal as ran out of money so had to go back to work
What does the general strike show
Unlike by Fawkes kind of protest strikes became more peaceful
