Q

What is Rutherfords atomic model?

A
  • Developed a model having a nucleus (positive and neutral charges) surrounded by orbiting electron charges
  • When experimenting to validate his theory, he passed alpha particle through to a sheet of gold paper, where it was shown that some particles slightly deviated or went straight through. This indicated that it was mostly empty space with a large concentration in the middle.

Q

What are the down falls of the Rutherford model

A
  • It did not restrict the movement of electrons
  • It did not explain why the electron did not continuously emit electromagnetic radiation
  • Did not explain emission and absorption spectra

Q

What is the bohr model and what did it solve in reguards to the rutherford model?

A
  • Looked at planks black body radiation and used that to explain electrons could only absorb and emit certain quanta of energy
  • Electrons can only emit electromagnetic radiation when changing levels
