Mode of address
The way in which a media text ‘speaks to’ its target audience.
Direct mode of address
when a media text talks to you directly (the model looks directly at the audience, or the writing speaks to ‘you’)
Indirect mode of address
The model looks away, or the writing refers to ‘people’ or the ‘public’.
Formal mode of address
Using formal phrasing and terminology.
Informal mode of address
Using more conversational language or slang.
Friendly mode of address
The tone is optimistic and comforting.
Tone
the way something is said. you can very the tone to be friendly, hostile, humorous
Hostile
The text challenges or insults the reader
Humorous
The writer/presenter is trying to make the audience laugh. The tone could be sarcastic or ironic.
