23
Q

Where else to check for sha?

A

Sha at the Back Shu and Front Mu corresponding to the issue

24
Q

Reinforcing technique:

A

use light pressure, slow speed and longer duration for those with weak constitution, prolonged disease or overly sensitive to pain

25
Q

Reducing technique:

A

use strong pressure, faster speed and shorter duration for those with strong constitution, excess syndrome in the early stage of a disease or joint pain

26
Q

Even technique:

A

use pressure that is not very strong, not very fast speed and depending on the constitution of the patient, for those with complicated deficiency and excess syndromes, especially for those in sub-health or chronic disease in the rehabilitation stage

27
Q

Fast:

A

more than 30 times per minute. Area: back and limbs. Uses: strong constitution or exogenous diseases

28
Q

Slow:

A

less than 30 times per minute. Area: face, chest, abdomen, medial aspect of the lower limbs. Uses: chronic diseases for which internal medicine is applicable

29
Q

CAM Order:

A

Head and face first, then extremities
Back and lower back first, then chest and abdomen Upper limbs first, then lower limbs

30
Q

Brown (like dry brown menstrual blood):

A

Yin deficiency, diabetes

31
Q

Yellow in 2 day old Sha:

A

bilirubin and biliverdin

32
Q

Pain that disappears with treatment but the returns soon afterwards:

A

Blood Deficiency

33
Q

Contraindications (gua sha)

A

injured areas with bruising or abrasion, red, hot, swollen joints, directly on fractures or contusions, sunburns, rashes, broken skin, rashes like eczema, over moles or pimples, abdomen of pregnant women.

patients who are 48 hours out from a chemotherapy treatment or 24 hours after a chemotherapy treatment

34
Q

The use of Gua Sha is not contraindicated for

A

those with a stable INR (international normalization ratio) currently taking anti- coagulant medication, NSAIDS, Vitamin E, or fish oils.

35
Q

Electro Acu indications:

A

muscle, ligament and joint diseases, pain and numbness, neuralgia and nervous paralysis, dysfunction of the heart, stomach, intestines, bladder, uterus and other organs. Also used for acupuncture anesthesia.

36
Q

Low continuous waves (dispersing):

A

below 30Hz – can cause muscles contractions, produce strong tremors, strengthen muscle ligament tension, regulate blood vessels for improving blood circulation, promote the recovery of neuromuscular function and improve neural muscle paralysis. Use for pain and spasms, paralysis, early stroke and numbness, injuries of muscles, ligaments and joints. Can be used for Bell’s Palsy (best results if immediately after the occurrence. Results are mixed if used post-acute).

37
Q

High continuous waves (dense or continuous fast/dense continuous):

A

above 30Hz – weaker tremor allowing them to reduce pain when applied. Inhibits the sensory/motor nerves and relieves spasms of the muscles and blood vessels. Used for incisions, pain and trauma. Overly long treatment time will reduce the analgesic effects.

38
Q

Alternative waves (mixed/dense- disperse):

A

alternating low and high frequencies (dense and dispersing) in intervals of about 1.5s or so – strengthens the blood and lymph circulations and Ion operation, adjusts the nutritional metabolism of tissues, improves
the metabolism, eliminates inflammation. Contracts the muscles and tension of the muscles and ligaments. Used for anesthesia, soft tissue injuries, strain of the lumbar dorsal fascia and nervous muscle paralysis, paralysis and numbness, chronic pain, muscle weakness, stroke, tissue regeneration, inflammation, edema, MS and chronic Bell’s palsy, sciatica, facial paralysis, weakness, pain, trauma, sprain and arthritis.

39
Q

Discontinuous waves (intermittent):

A

combination of waves (dense and dispersing with slow frequency waves) with intermittent rhythm, a pulse sequence generated through continuous waves after a rectangular modulation. Produces the strongest tremor
of wave, stimulates the muscles. Best for treating cerebrovascular problems, encephalitis B, polio sequelae and some peripheral neuropathy caused by muscle atrophy diseases, severe paralysis, spinal nerve injury, trauma and more severe motor nerve injuries.

40
Q

Regular frequency:

A

drains Excess

41
Q

Irregular frequency:

A

strengthens Deficiency

42
Q

Do not treat:

A

Regions close to the heart or near anterior triangle of the neck (the carotid sinus, laryngeal muscles, vagus nerve [CNX] ),
patients with cardiac pacemakers, ICD (implantable cardioverter defibrillator) or history of heart disease. Do not cross the heart.
Legs points on a pregnant woman especially in the 3rd trimester. Abdomen or back of pregnant women.
Local areas of tumors or skin lesions.
Posterior cervical area (brainstem), cross the spine, Yintang to Du20, Du20-GB20, EA to Sishencong or over a local lesion).
Do not perform on infants, children, incapacitated, sleeping or unconscious persons

43
Q

Syncope treatment:

A

Deficiency type: Du26, Du20, PC6, Ren6, ST36; Excess type: Du26, LI4, PC9, PC8, LV3, LV1

44
Q

Fu Zi (Aconite/ Monkshood)

A

Deficient and persistent Yin Cold syndromes such as impotence and premature ejaculation caused by Mingmen Fire decline or Deficient Yang conditions, including skin ulcerations that resist healing or Yin abscesses and carbuncles where pus will not disperse.

45
Q

Ginger

A

weakness of Spleen and Stomach such as diarrhea or abdominal pain, painful joints, symptoms due to Yang Deficiency pain or soreness in the joints and Deficient Cold conditions in general.

46
Q

Salt (Moxa at cV8)

A

abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea, pain around the umbilicus, pain caused by hernia, prolonged dysentery, etc.; also restores Yang Collapse with symptoms of excessive sweating, cold limbs and undetectable pulse. Large cones may be used successively until sweating stops, pulse restores and the four extremities get warm. Also used for “Abandoned Stroke.”
