MOD F TECH 55 Medicines Management Flashcards
Medicines Management
Safety Checks
If administering drugs or assisting a Paramedic in doing so then certain safety checks should be carried out after the appropriate drug has been selected:
•That the drug selected is in fact the one requested
•
- That the correct strength / presentation of the drug has been selected as requested by the clinician
- That the packaging / container is intact and has not been tampered with, contaminated or broken
- That the drug is in date
•
•If the drug is a bag of fluid then also check the clarity of the liquid
Storage
All medicines / drugs must be stored in the appropriate drugs bag and the vehicle must be locked when not in use.
Controlled Drugs will be stored in locked metal safes – which Paramedics will only have access to –
ECA’s or Technicians should not handle controlled drugs – if they are passed a Paramedic’s key to access the morphine safe then refuse as this is a Controlled drug and is not their responsibility

- Morphine Sulphate is a Class ‘A’ Controlled drug (CD)
- Classified under section 2 of the Misuse of drugs act 1971
