Mod 7.9 (3) Flashcards
Why cant a jam nut be secured to a B nut?
Both B nuts and jam nuts tighten in the same direction so they will loosen.
Describe the correct procedure for installing a rigid tube assembly.
Clamp the pipe,
Check the alignment,
then torque the nut.
Two locations where to find the torque value for the T-bolt clamps?
The AMM
its stamped on the clamp
On a flared fluid pipe what is the unified flare angle?
37º
What is the minimum clearance between pipes, tubing and hoses?
The minimum is 3/32 of an inch.
What is the maximum allowable angular mismatch for a flared pipe installation?
The maximum angular mismatch is 2º for a flared pipe installation.
What is the recommended cutting lenght of a new pipe for fabrication?
For a new pipe it’s cutting length should be 10% longer than the old tube.
Cut the pipe square with a fine tooth hacksaw or roller type cutter.
What tool causes the metal to be burnished?
When is it done?
A tubbing cutter causes metal to be burnished.
It is done when a pipe/ tube needs to be cut.
What is the method for installing a flareless fitting?
What tool is used?
What should be done to all pipes immediatly after being removed from the aircraft?
All pipes and tubing should be caped to prevent contamination after being removed from the aircraft.
What is the minimum amount of teeth that should be in contact when using a hacksaw to cut a pipe?
A minimum of 4 teeth per inch.
What should be done straight after cutting a pipe?
Burrs must be removed and the ends of the tube must be polished.
This prevents stress cracking by removing the sharpe edge.
Describe bending a tube by hand:
Hand bending is done on small diameter tubing which can be bent without collapsing by using a hand bending tool.
