MOD 6 PUMPS Flashcards
If we want high volume, and low pressure, what type of pump would we use?
Vane pump
What is the most common constant displacement type pump?
Gear Pump
Hydraulic hand pumps can be?
Single or Double acting
In a hydraulic system with a constant displacement pump, what must we have to prevent system damage?
Pressure relief
In the gear type pump, how does the fluid flow through the pump?
The fluid is trapped between the gear teeth and the wall body of the pump, where it is moved to the outlet side of the pump
What is the function of a pump in a hydraulic system?
Move fluid through the system
In the Gerotor pump, the driven rotor has how many more teeth than the drive gear?
1
The variable displacement pump utilizes what to lengthen or shorten the effective stroke of the piston?
Compensator assembly
Similar to a basic electrical circuit, in a basic hydraulic system, the fluid flows from the pump to______, ______, ______, ______?
Flowmeter, pressure gauge, valve (restrictor), reservoir.
How do we cool a Variable displacement pump??
Bypass some fluid back to the reservoir
Is the pump given for this work sheet a: (Gear Type Pump) Constant displacement Or Variable displacement
Constant displacement type
A gear type pump operates by allowing the fluid to go from the inlet: -Through the center of the teeth between the 2 gears and to the outlet. Or -Between the teeth and the housing where meshing of the 2 gears drives the fluid to the outlet
Between the teeth and the housing where meshing of the 2 gears drives the fluid to the outlet
In most cases, when installing a gear type pump, is it necessary to coat the drive spline and the engine drive spline with a good approved lubricant?
yes
What is the purpose of the weak relief valve used to control case pressure located in the gear pump cover? -Ensures the lubricating fluid always goes to the outlet side of the pump or -Prevents air from entering into the pump body and hydraulic system though the drive gear shaft, should the seal fail
-Prevents air from entering into the pump body and hydraulic system though the drive gear shaft, should the seal fail
Why do the floating bronze bearings have an “O” ring under the flange? (Gear Type Pump) -To allow pump out put pressure to push the bronze bushing against the side walls of the gears and create a better seal at high system pressures. Or -Allows the pump to rotate in either direction and still have the fluid flow in the same at the inlet and outlet.
To allow pump out put pressure to push the bronze bushing against the side walls of the gears and create a better seal at high system pressures.
Where does the lubricating pressure originate in the gear type pump?
Between the pump gear teeth as they mesh together.
In the gear type pump a minimum side clearance between the gears and the body bearing flange is reduced by pressure from the discharge port and the force is applied against the gear by the floating bearing, this is called:
Pressure loading
When installing the gear type pump, at what location should the seal drain line be positioned?
At the bottom or lowest 1/8” plug fitting and run the line into the slip stream
On the model gerotor pump that you have, how many teeth does the spur driving gear have?
4
On the model gerotor pump, how many teeth does the internal gear rotor have?
5
Which way does the model you have (gerotor pump) rotate viewed from the top of the pump or inlet outlet side
Left hand (ccw)
When considering the relief valve, does direction of rotation matter in the model gerotor pump?
yes
Considering the 4 vertical oil lines in the case lining of the pump, from where does the lubricating oil pressure originate? (Gerotor Pump)
from the spur driving gear and is pushed internally through the gear rotor
What purpose does the 1/10” hole in the relief valve have? (Gerotor Pump)
allows fluid to flow from the outlet to the inlet
