What is a religious belief
is a conviction about an idea central to a religion + expresses a religious truth. They offer particular insights + understandings about life
Belief
state of mind in which a person thinks something to be the case, with or without being empirical evidence to prove that something is the case with factual certainity
Creed
a profession of faith, something that lists the belief of a group of people
The Apostles’ Creed
-Based on the teachings of the first Apostles
-Faithful summary of the apostles’ faith
- Ancient baptismal symbol of the church of Rome
-reps ‘common faith’
Nicene Creed
-325AD, emperor Constantine called council of Nicaea
-Aimed to define essential Christian beliefs + statement of these beliefs -> Nicene Creed
-Emphasis importance of the Trinity
-Calls church of believers, 4 qualities: One, Holy, catholic, apostolic
-Not change Apostles’ Creed, but goes in greater detail
