Q

What is unilateral spatial neglect and which hemisphere is usually involved?

A

inability to perceive and integrate stimuli on the contralesional side of the body

Q

What are the implications for rehab with USN?

A

major cause of disability after stroke due to loss of independence

25-30% all stroke survivors in acute phase

90% right sided

low FIM scores

Q

What are the PT assessment and implications with USN?

A
  • move to midline in front of patient and ask them to look midline
  • ask to follow object to midline and beyond
  • education about protection of the patient’s affected side to prevent injury
  • cue and challenge to have family sit more on affected when talking to patient
  • modify environment
