each person is different, introduce yourself and what you do, have a conversation, remove distractions, make the patient express understanding of the plan, repeat yourself
Six variables that will impact how you and the patient communicate
mental status of patient/pt, vocabulary, clarity, attitude, humor, tone/volume
This is whether or not the patient is ready to receive/provide information and whether or not the pt is a good communicator/listener
