Describe Role 2 medical care
Occurs in a medical company (BSB, ASMC)
- blood, x-ray, laboratory, dental, COSC, preventive
medicine, and when augmented, physical therapy and optometry services
- greater capability to resuscitate trauma patients than is available at Role 1.
- Patients who can return to duty within 72 hours are held for treatment

Describe Role 3 medical care
- Staffed and equipped to provide care to all categories of patients, to include resuscitation, initial wound surgery, damage control surgery, and postoperative treatment (Bagram, Al Asad) (1-31)
- Primary conduit for patient evacuation to Role 4 facilities
Describe Role 4 medical care
Role 4 medical care is found in CONUS-based hospitals and other safe havens (Walter Reed, SAAMC, Landsthul) (1-32)
What is the Theater Evacuation Policy?
Soldiers are not evacuated for care to role 4 unless their recovery time exceeded the theater evacuation policy (usually 60 days) (4-0)
