Compartment Syndrome
caused by pressure build up from internal bleeding or swelling of tissues
Fascia
tough white connective tissue, like a glove over a muscle
Signs and Symptoms
severe pain, swelling, pallor, numbness
Fat Embolism Syndrome
fat emboli are released from closed long bone or pelvic fractures, emboli enter blood stream causing: dyspnea, petechial rash, neurological symptoms (confusion, seizures, coma)
Healing (3)
- inflammatory- tissues swell
- reparative- 6-8 weeks, new bone cells building
- remodeling- lamellar network
Union (3)
- nonunion- no improvement after three months
- delayed union- after 3-6 months, no improvement
- malunion- healed but not correctly
