MOA Flashcards
SABA/LABA
B2 receptor agonist which increases cAMP, activating protein kinase A which increased conductance of K+ through Ca2+ sensitive K+ channels into airway smooth muscle cells, leading to hyper polarisation and relaxation. Can also increase ciliary beat freq
SAMA/LAMA
Blocks PSNS Ach stimulation via M3 muscarinic receptor, decreasing bronchial tone and preventing bronchoconstriction
Methylxanthines
Phosphodiesterase inhibitor, inhibits the degradation of cAMP, increasing bronchial smooth muscle relaxation
Leukotriene receptor antagonist
Inhibit the leukotriene pathway, preventing activation of inflammatory cells, bronchoconstriction
Corticosteroids
Binds to nuclear steroid complex which translocates to the nucleus and alters transcription of anti inflammatory genes (e.g. upregulates lipocortin-1 which upregulates anti inflammatory and down regulates pro inflammatory molecules)
Cromolyns
Stabilise mast cell membrane and reduce release of mast cell inflammatory mediators, reduce chemotactic induced influx of inflammatory cells
