Semitendinosus/membranosus
Knee Flexion Against Gravity
Prone
Flex knee by bringing heel back to butt as far as possible
Push into knee extension at 90 deg
Knee Flexion Gravity Eliminated
Side-lying with top leg fully supported
Start in knee extension, ask patient to bend knee
Knee Flexion Gravity Eliminated (can’t complete)
Prone
Palpate hamstring muscle, try to flex
Semitendinosus/membranosus
Point down and in
Pull down
Biceps Femoris
Point down and out
Pull down
Knee Extension Muscles
Rectus Femoris
Vastus lateralis/intermedius/medialis
Knee Extension Against Gravity
Sit at EOB
Extend lower leg
Push down at distal tibia
Knee Extension Gravity Eliminated
Side-lying with top leg fully supported
Start in 90 degree flexion, ask patient to straight leg
Knee Flexion Gravity Eliminated (can’t complete)
Supine
Palpate quad, try to extend
