-this genocide has been empowered by colonial structures, evidence notably by the Indian act, the 60s scoop, residential school & breaches of human & Inuit, Métis & First Nations rights leading directly to the current increased rates of violence death & suicide in INDG populations

-colonial violence as well as racism, sexism, homophobia & transphobia agains INDG women, & girls has become embedded in everyday life - whether this is through interpersonal forms of violence through institutions like the health care system & the justice system or in the laws policies & structures of Canadian society the result has been that many INDG people have grown up normalized to violence while Canadian society shows an appalling apathy of addressing the issue

-the goal of the inquiry was to investigate & report on the systematic causes of all forms of violence against INDG women & girls & to examine the underlying social economic cultural institutional & historical causes that contribute to the ongoing violence & particular vulnerabilities
