MK-16 EP's Flashcards

1
Q

Treatment of Non convulsive CNS Oxygen Toxicity Symptoms

A
  1. Ascend.
  2. Add diluent to the breathing loop.
  3. Secure the oxygen cylinder if oxygen addition is uncontrolled.

Q

Treatment of underwater convulsion.

A
  1. Assume a position behind the convulsing diver.
  2. Ensure the FFM is on and clear of water. If it is not do not replace it. Ensure rig is in surface mode.
  3. Ventilate the UBA to lower ppO2.
  4. Make a controlled ascent to the first decompression stop.

If the diver regains consciousness, continue decompression.

If the diver does not regain consciousness, surface at 30 fpm, establish an airway and treat for symptomatic omitted decompression.

  1. On surface inflate BC, remove the pod and switch to surface mode. Check for breathing. If not breathing give two rescue breaths.
  2. If the victim surfaced unconscious treat for AGE.

Q

Treatment of Hypoxic diver.

A
  1. Deploy standby to assist.
  2. If consciousness is regained, continue normal decompression.
  3. If consciousness is not regained, ascend to the surface at 30fpm, establish an airway, and administer 100% oxygen. Treat for symptomatic omitted D.

Q

Management of chemical incident.

A
  1. Using freshwater rinse the mouth several times.
  2. Observe for symptoms of AGE and treat as necessary.
  3. Victim should be transported to an ENT as soon as possible.

Q

Omitted decompression:

At 20 FSW.

A
  1. If the surface interval was less than 1 minute. Add 1 minute to the stop time and resume decompression.
  2. If the surface interval was greater than 1 minute but less than 5 minutes. Multiply the 20 foot stop time by 1.5
  3. If the surface interval is greater than 5 minutes and a chamber is available within an hour. Treat on a Treatment Table 6.

Q

Omitted decompression:

Deeper than 20 FSW.

A
  1. If less than 30 minutes of decompression missed and surface interval is less than 5 minutes, treat on a Treatment Table 5.

If less than 30 minutes but longer then 5 minutes, Treatment Table 6.

  1. If more than 30 minutes missed treat on a Treatment Table 6.

Q

Omitted decompression:

Deeper than 20 FSW, no chamber available .

A
  1. Descend to the deepest stop omitted.

2. Multiply all stops 40 feet and shallower by 1.5.

Q

In water DCS:

Diver remaining in the water .

A
  1. Dispatch standby to assist.
  2. Have the diver descend in 10 foot increment. (But no more than 20 feet).
  3. Compute a new decompression profile by multiplying all stops by 1.5. If recompression went deeper than the first stop. Use the first stop time at that depth.
  4. Lengthen stops as necessary to control s/x’s.
  5. Transport to chamber:

If asymptomatic TT5

If symptomatic TT6
