Mixtures Flashcards
How can you use melting points to decide if a substance is pure or a mixture!
Melting points allow you to identify pure substances and mixtures because with pure substances all of it will melt at the same temperature, with mixtures not all of the substance will melt at the same temperature
What is the difference between a pure substance and a mixture?
A pure substance is the same in all parts in the piece of gate substance. A mixture contains elements and compounds that aren’t chemically joined together.
why does the temperature not change as a pure substance melts?
A pure substance has the same composition in each part of it so a pure substance will melt at the same temperature
The composition of a pure substance:
Cannot be changed
Is the same in all parts of the substance
What is a pure substance?
A pure substance has the same fixed composition in all parts and so we can’t separate it into other substances using physical methods
What is a mixture?
A mixture contains elements and/ or compounds that are not chemically joined together. You can use physical processes to separate mixtures into different substances. A mixture does not have a fixed composition
Why will a pubs tan e melt at the same temperature until all the substance has changed state?
Because a pure substance has the same composition in every part of it and so its physical properties are the Sam eon every part
