- SOB
- Pulmonary Oedema/haemoptysis
- RHF
What is the timing of Mitral Stenosis?
Mid diastolic
What is the intensity of Mitral Stenosis?
Between 1-4
Where do you hear Mitral Stenosis?
At the apex
What is the position of the patient to hear Mitral Stenosis at its loudest?
On left hand side using the expiration bell
Does Mitral stenosis usually radiate?
No!
What are the systemic features of Mitral Stenosis?
- Opening snap
- Taping apex
- AF
- Loud first heart sound
- Mitral Facies
- Signs of RHF
What are the common ECG features?
- AF common
2. Bifid P waves
What are the common CXR features?
- Enlarged left atrium
2. Pulmonary venous congestion
What is the differential diagnosis for MS?
- Austin Flint (2ndary AR)
- Carey Coombs (rumbling mid diastolic murmur)
- TS (Tricuspid stenosis)
What is the treatment for MS?
- Treat the AF
- Anticoag
- Diuretics
What is the murmur characteristic of Mitral Stenosis?
Low rumbling mid diastolic with opening snap
What are the signs of Mitral Stenosis?
- Malar flush. (low cardiac output)
- AF
- Tapping apex (palpable S1)
- Loud S1
- Pulmonary hypertension
