Mitosis V.S Miosis Flashcards
What does mitosis result in?
The process of mitosis results in body cells
What does Miosis result in ?
The process of miosis results in gametes
What is the starting cell before miosis and mitosis called?
Is diploid (2n)
What does 2n mean?
It means that the cell has 2 sets of chromosomes
In humans, n is?
23 pairs, meaning 1 set from mom and 1 set from dad. In total we have 23 pairs and 46 chromosomes
During what phase does the cell duplicate the chromosomes?
During interphase
When the chromosomes are duplicated we still say that….
There are 46 chromosomes, therefore, now there are 92 chromatids
Is interphase part of miosis or mitosis?
No. But it is a very important phase because it duplicates chromosomes before we get started
Both mitosis and miosis go through what process? But…
PMAT. Prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase. But Miosis goes through it twice
