Cell Cycle
when cells in an organism go through a cycle of growth, development, and division.
Mitosis
the process by which a parent cell divides into two identical daughter cells
Inteerphase
the stage of the cell cycle between periods of mitosis in which the cell grows
Prophase
the first phase of mitosis during which chromosomes condense and the nuclear membrane starts to dissapear
Metaphase
the second phase of mitosis during which chromomsomes line up along the center of the cell
Anaphase
the third phase of mitosis during whicheach chromosomes is pulled apart by spindle fibers and the resulting daughter chromosomes are pulled to oppisite sides of the cell
telophase
the fourth and final phase of mitosis during which a nuclear membrane forms around chromosomes on oppisite sides of the cell and the chromosomes become unwound DNA in a newly formed nucleus
Cytokinesis
a stage of the cell cycle during which the cell membrane pinched in and the cytoplasm divides into two daughter cells after mitosis
Centriole
an organelle found near the nucleus in animal cells that forms the spindle fibers that pull chromosomes apart during mitosis
Chromosome
the part of the cell that carries genes
DNA
the chemical found in cells that is the main component of chromosomes and carries genitic info
Centrometer
a structure that holds the sister chromatids together
Sister chromatid
2 identical chromatids that make up a duplicated chromosome
Daughter cell
the result of a parent cell dividing
