mitosis stages Flashcards
what happens during interphase
-cell is not dividing
-chromatin not visible
-DNA, histone, centrioles replicated
-replication of cell organelles
whats a histone
-protein in which DNA wraps itself around to condense
what happens during prophase
-chromosomes have replicated
-nucleur envelope breaks down
-centriole divides and 2 daughter centrioles move to opposite poles
-cytoskeleton protein threads form spindle between centrioles
-chromosomes shorten and thicken
what happens during metaphase
-the pairs of chromatids attatch to spindle threads at equator region
-attach by centrioles
what happens during anaphase
-the centromere of each pair of chromosomes splits
-motor proteins (along tubulin threads) pull each sister chromatid of a pair in opposite directions to poles
-because centromere goes first, chromatids assume a V shape
whats a centrosome
-organelle located near nucleus in animal cells
-contains pair of centrioles and is responsible for organizing mitotic spindle
what happens during telophase
-separated chromosomes reach the poles
-a new nucleur envelope forms around each set of chromosomes
-cell contains 2 nuclei each genetically identical to each other and parent cell which arose
what happens during cytokenisis
-plasma membrane folds inwards and “nips in” the cytoplasm
-in plant cells, end plate forms where equator was and new plasma membrane + cellulose wall material are laid down on either side
