Mitosis, Meosis And Binary Fission Flashcards
What are new cells used for?
Growth
Development
Repair
Outline the three stages of the cell cycle?
Growth
DNA replication and mitosis
Division
What happens in stage 1 of the cell cycle?
The number of sub-cellular structures increases
What happens in stage two of the cell cycle?
The chromosomes duplicate and they line up in the centre of the cell, where they are pulled to each pole.
What happens in stage three of the cell cycle?
Division involves the cell membrane and cytoplasm to pull apart to create two identical cells
Outline the difference between mitosis and meiosis.
Mitosis creates two identical cells
Meiosis produces four different gamete cells
What is binary fission?
The process in which prokaryotic organisms divide and reproduce
What are the three stages In binary fission?
Grow
DNA replication
Division
What is the difference between binary fission and mitosis?
In Binary fission when the plasmids replicate they do not separate to the poles so each daughter cell has a random amount
What factors effect the rest of bacterial growth?
Temperature
Moisture
Oxygen
Nutrient availability
